a Western rite parish in
the Orthodox Archdiocese of New York & New Jersey
within the Autonomous Orthodox Christian Metropolia of North & South America
and the British Isles.
This quaint little temple dedicated to our Lord's Holy Transfiguration has a
long and significant history.
It was from this temple and its affiliated St. Dunstan's Priory that Dom
Augustine (Whitfield) entered his
monastic career under the eldership of Metropolitan William (Brothers).
This was the headquarters in the early 1960s for the
Western Rite Exarchate of the Moscow Patriarchate
then later, with the help of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Exile in the
1970s
was home of an autocephalous Holy Synod of Orthodox Western Rite
and though they were also present in Canada, Great Britain, Yugoslavia and
elsewhere,
in 1997 they were strengthened in their Traditional witness by uniting with
the
traditional Autonomous Metropolia of Western Europe & the Americas
also known as "Milan Synod" due to the international synodal offices are in
Milan, Italy.
And in 2011 the Eparchies in the Americas and the United
Kingdom were given
administrative autonomy from the Milan Synod while incorporating us as
The Autonomous Orthodox Metropolia of North & South America and the British
Isles
in sacramental communion with local Churches of the True Orthodox Christians
in
Russia, Bulgaria and Greece and their faithful in Latin America.
